Contrairement \u00e0 ce que l\u2019on pense couramment, ces anneaux ne servent pas \u00e0 l\u2019amarrage des navires mais \u00e0 porter, comme \u00e0 Venise, des torches ou des drapeaux \u00e0 l\u2019occasion des f\u00eates organis\u00e9es pour la venue d\u2019un visiteur de marque, comme par exemple ici l\u2019Empereur Napol\u00e9on III et l\u2019Imp\u00e9ratrice Eug\u00e9nie. Chaque anneau porte les armes des ducs de Savoie, la croix entre deux lions.
