En 1845, un visiteur n\u2019h\u00e9site pas \u00e0 \u00e9crire que \u00ab le lazaret de Villefranche est un des plus beaux et des mieux construits d\u2019Europe \u00bb. Connue aussi sous le nom de \u00ab tour Paganini \u00bb car ce serait l\u00e0, dit-on, que le corps de ce c\u00e9l\u00e8bre violoniste aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pos\u00e9 apr\u00e8s sa mort, avant qu\u2019il ne soit transport\u00e9 en Italie.
