Apr\u00e8s le rattachement de Nice \u00e0 la France elle est utilis\u00e9e pour loger un bataillon de Chasseurs alpins puis d\u00e9molie en 1942. En 1957, l\u2019architecte Eug\u00e8ne Beaudouin, premier grand prix de Rome en 1929 et architecte en chef des B\u00e2timents publics et Palais nationaux, obtient la concession du site et y am\u00e9nage un extraordinaire jardin suspendu, ainsi qu\u2019un atelier dans les anciennes cuisines de la caserne.
