L'oeuvre de Vogt

Carl Vogt (1817-1895) est l'un des savants les plus influents de son époque.

Il est chassé de Prusse pour ses opinions politiques révolutionnaires et fonde la chaire de Géologie et Zoologie puis devient le premier recteur de l'Université de Genève. Passionné par la diversité des espèces, Vogt diffuse les idées de Darwin sur l'évolution et décrit la faune marine au cours de ses voyages d'étude sur les côtes européennes. Il séjourne à Nice en 1852 et 53 et décrit "Les Siphonophores de la mer de Nice" dans un ouvrage richement illustré. Nous présentons les dessins de Vogt sur quelques uns de ces hydraires marins.
